ABSTRACT
There are 4 species of Otters in Indonesia, namely Lutra lutra, Lutra sumatrana, Lutrogale perspicillata, and Aonyx cinereus, otters are members of the Order Carnivora of the family Mustelidae, and the Lutrinae subfamily., plays an important role as apex predators in wetland ecosystems. Katingan Mentaya Forest (HKM) is a peat forest located within the Katingan Regency and East Kotawaringin Regency in Central Kalimantan Province under the management of PT Rimba Makmur Utama (RMU), It has a variety of vegetation which is thought to be suitable for being an otters habitat. Therefore this research was conducted, to identify the presence and distribution of otters in the HKM area. This research uses the Camera Trap (CT) method and placement is done by looking for signs of presence using the Line Transect method. In this study, 3 individual otters were found, which were identified into 2 different species, namely Aonyx cinereus and Lutra sumatrana. In this study, there were 12 transect locations, almost on all transects there were signs of an otter.
