This study aims to determine the effect of 96% ethanol extrack and Pepper Elder water as well as to determine the most effective duration of treatment as antihyperglycemic in Sprague-Dawley rats induced with 150mg/200kg body weight of alloxan. For a total of 20 male white rats were grouped into 4 treatment groups (each group of 5 rats) that were metformin positive control group (12.6mg/200gBW), the negative control was only given aquadest, ethanol extract group 96% and water extract group each 40mg/200gBW. The treatment was given for 16 days.
The results showed that the administration of the herbal water extract was more effective than the 96% ethanol extract of the pepper elder in reducing blood sugar levels, because it was not significantly different from the positive control (metformin), for 16 days and the ethanol extract of the pepper elder on day 16 was not different. significantly with the positive control which still had the effect of lowering blood sugar levels which was equivalent to the positive control (metformin), because the blood sugar level of the herbal water extract was lower than the 96% ethanol extract of the pepper elder in Sprague-Dawley male rats.
