Worldwide there are approximately 800 species of sea urchins, which are divided into two subclass, namely Perischoechinoidea, and Euchinoidea. Bayah Beach has a beautiful coral reef area, and is inhabited by various types of aquatic biota that can be utilized by the community, one of which is sea urchins. The research was conducted using the line transect method. Sea urchin samples were taken from morning to noon when the beach waves receded. Sampling lasts for two months, each with eight working days in each month, or within a week of two days of sampling. In this study, 4,874 individual sea urchins were identified in six genus, namely Stomopneustes, Echinometra, Colobocentrotus, Heterocentrotus, Diadema, and Tripneustes. Sea urchins that are often found in the research location are Echinometra and Stomopneustes. Generally found in crevices where algae are growing. The level of diversity of sea urchins in the research location is moderate according to the Shannon-Wienner index. The relative abundance index of Stomopneustes and Echinometra is high, while the abundance of the other four genus is low. In general, Stomopneustes is dominant in the study location. Based on the results of the variance, there are significant differences in the water chemistry-physics variables between the observation locations, which affect the diversity of species, abundance and dominance of sea urchins in this study.
